Advanced Terrain Modelling Modelling Masterclass

“This text is a must for the modeling fan, military or non-military, as it provides some unique techniques unlikely to be found elsewhere.” -Timothy Baghurst, The Traveller (November 2007)

“His descriptions of materials and layout tips can be applied to all kinds of model layout, both military and civilian in subject, and pairs close-up color photos with the author’s descriptions of how he built each landscape, and the special challenges involved. An intriguing survey, this would be the perfect addition to any collection appealing to hobbyists.” -California Bookwatch (October 2007)

“…an extraordinarily well presented, informative and inspirational book.” -Jim Rae, Aeroscale (August 2007)

“There are few books as truly useful as ones like this. Modelers of every skill level will be able to find things that they can do to help improve the look of their presentations. Thanks to the copious number of quality images that accompany each article, those with the will should be able to follow what was done with ease. It is a book that I can most highly recommend to you.” -Scott Van Aken, modelingmadness.com (August 2007)

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars modelling review
Book well written, concise, good for new and old modellers. Good quality pics. Would have liked to see more diorama designs.

3 Stars Need to temper rating
Looking at the pictures on the cover (where the best models are expected to be featured) leaves one in no doubt that the work here is of pedestrian quality, not deserving of 5 stars.

The author had a similar book on Terrain Modelling Masterclass by the same publisher where I have also noted that the quality is also 3 star.

Works featured in museums are not a guarantee of absolute quality. Trust your eye.

5 Stars An intriguing survey, this would be a perfect addition to any collection appealing to hobbyists.
Advanced Terrain Modelling provides a survey of the ideas and techniques for creating miniature landscapes and comes from an author whose works are displayed in British and European museums alike. His descriptions of materials and layout tips can be applied to all kinds of model layout, both military and civilian in subject, and pairs close-up color photos with the author’s descriptions of how he built each landscape, and the special challenges involved. An intriguing survey, this would be a perfect addition to any collection appealing to hobbyists.

3 Stars Terrain modeling information
The author does a wonderful job demonstrating techniques and products. The list of products used is very helpful, but somewhat limited, in that a major portion of what the author uses is available only in the UK. When trying some of the stores that he recommended,I was not able to find either the product or the company that originally created the product. This can be very frustrating when you are trying to come up with just the right product to create the effect that you want on your diorama. Other than that the directions were clear and concise and amply illustrated.
